Station No. 616 is a new 7,100 square foot fire station designed to complement the natural topography of the site and blend with the surrounding desert context. The facility replaces a temporary double-wide trailer previously used by the Scottsdale Fire Department. The station program includes two apparatus bays, six dormitories, a full industrial kitchen, a day room, dining area, and gym.
The structural system consists of open web wood joist roof framing, interior steel columns, and exterior masonry walls. The apparatus bay employs a structural system designed to support the tall exterior walls and large bay doors, while the residential wing utilizes a lower-cost framing system that also provides flexibility for the living spaces.
