The structure of this Behavioral Health Center was originally constructed in 1968 with John A. Martin & Associates, Inc. providing the engineering. The newly renovated 500,000 SF facility offers fully integrated inpatient, outpatient, and supportive services for some of LA County’s most vulnerable populations, including those struggling with mental illness, substance disorders, and homelessness. Specific Behavioral Health programs include: Mental Health, Urgent Care and Primary Care Clinics, Psychiatric Health Facilities, a Rehabilitation Center, Residential Treatment Program Spaces, Substance Use Disorder Outpatient Services, Management and Residential Programs, Probation Support, and an Office of Diversion and Re-entry Housing.
This 6-story above grade concrete structure features both a penthouse and basement level maximizing the use of its vertical space. The Design-Build Tenant Improvement structure includes concrete shear walls and wide shallow beams and had a total construction cost of $245 million. John A. Martin & Associates, Inc.’s scope included: new slab and wall openings, new stair towers, new 25-foot roof windscreens, new cooling towers, and a new Behavioral Health Center entrance canopy.
