About Us

John A. Martin & Associates, Inc. (JAMA) is an internationally recognized structural engineering firm founded in 1953 and headquartered in Los Angeles, California. With affiliate offices in the western United States, JAMA is one of the largest privately-owned structural engineering companies in the nation.

JAMA is recognized by owners, architects and peers as a partner and collaborator in the design and construction process; delivering exceptional client service and design solutions that balance technical precision, cost appropriateness and architectural intent.

The firm is committed to advancing structural awareness and applications among its clients and employees, and applies advanced structural research via an in-house research and development entity to projects of all types, size and complexity.

Capabilities

JAMA specializes in structural engineering services, and has maintained this concentration for over 60 years. JAMA’s capabilities in structural design extend to types and sizes or projects, for both private and public clients worldwide. Utilizing the latest design techniques, computer applications, and proven engineering concepts, JAMA derives structural solutions based on efficiency, economic feasibility, and support of a project’s architectural intent and expression.

While JAMA maintains expertise in a broad range of traditional structural engineering services, the firm also seeks opportunities outside the traditional role, as noted by the following list of capabilities and services.

Sustainability

JAMA is committed to environmentally sensitive design as a means of meeting one of the future’s most critical challenges. Our firm’s range of sustainable experience spans new construction, renovations, and rehabilitation projects, with many efforts exploring or actively pursuing LEED or Living Building Challenge standards. This has led to the use of alternative structural systems such as timber construction, and an increasing integration of engineering and construction in ways that save time, money, and push environmental standards. The JAMA team has worked for years to promote mass timber and incorporate it into building codes and standards.

Additionally, JAMA is committed to championing and engineering designs that reduce embodied carbon to net zero by 2050. JAMA’s commitment to SE 2050 was launched with an in-house presentation on embodied carbon and the distribution of our Embodied Carbon Action Plan (ECAP) report.
