The Natural History Museum’s new wing, NHM Commons has officially opened. The museum hosted a celebration filled with arts and crafts booths, cultural dance performances, and engaging conversations about community and the natural world.
At the heart of the event was the Commons project itself, which includes nearly 50,000 square feet of renovated space within an existing gallery structure and more than 30,000 square feet of new construction. Highlights include a 400-seat theater and a stunning two-story glass lobby that showcases the braced frame with dampers, structural elements proudly designed by JAMA. The new space is also home to the impressive ‘Gnatalie’ dinosaur fossil and Barbara Carrasco’s powerful mural celebrating Los Angeles history.
JAMA’s partnership with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County spans over two decades, beginning with the campus renovation in 2010. We’re honored to be part of this exciting new chapter. Congratulations to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Frederick Fisher and Partners, and MATT Construction on this incredible grand opening!
