Steel Goes Up at Cal Poly Pomona

Project Manager Matt Timmers recently led project engineers Mario Leon, Mike Brown and Parbi Boodaghian on a site observation visit to review elevated concrete slab, concrete shear wall, and link beam construction on the firm’s most recent Cal Poly Pomona effort. Anticipated to open in Fall 2018, the College’s Student Services Building (SSB) is a 140,000 square foot visual and academic gateway to the campus. Providing prospective and returning students, alumni, and visitors a campus “front door,” the facility will house the Office of the President, division of university advancement, and divisions of academic, student and administrative affairs. With a configuration that includes two separate structures connected overhead by 2-acre, standing-seam aluminum roof, reviewing construction progress on the substructure is key. Steel framing for the roof is due in just a few months.
