Performance-based wind engineering employing an inelastic "pushover" analysis would also be an effective means of minimizing any necessary rehabilitation of existing buildings not conforming to current codes. To properly define a rehabilitation safety objective, wind speed demand of an appropriately long return period is needed, rather than the code-prescribed 50-year wind speed.
