USD Hahn Student Center

USD Hahn Student Center
San Diego, California
Size: 151,000 square feet
Construction Cost: $33,000,000

Originally built in 1986, the Ernest and Jean Hahn University Center served as the hub of USD’s student life activities. The facility initially contained dining areas, meeting rooms, lounges, and offices for students and faculty but lacked food service amenities for a growing a campus. The project included renovation of the existing 75,000 SF structure and construction of a new multi-story addition that includes a grand dining hall, health-food market, student offices, game room and lounges. This state of the art facility is exemplary of the campus’ Spanish Renaissance styling and engages a steep site with a central courtyard that acts as a natural chimney to cool the entire building. The project achieved LEED Gold certification.
