The MLK Medical Center renovation is a multi-phased design-build project and involves the transformation of several existing buildings and the construction of 3 new buildings. Renovations are focused on the existing 5-story base isolated inpatient tower (IPT), the main lobby admittance building (MLA), hospital service and medical records building (HSB), and the existing central plants (CP1 and CP2). The new construction includes a 2-story steel moment frame ancillary building which offers dining facilities, offices, and a new front entrance to the Medical Center. The project also involves the construction of the new central plant and generator buildings (CP3 and CP4) which will be concrete shear wall buildings over deep pile foundations. The project is designed to achieve a minimum of Silver LEED accreditation.
