Drawings are almost finalized for NOHO West, a transformation of LA’s North Hollywood neighborhood Laurel Plaza Mall into a pedestrian-oriented mixed-use community. The shopping center, originally opened in 1955, was hit hard by the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, leaving a freestanding Macy’s as the only surviving structure from the quake. The new development will consist of a series of low-rise structures featuring apartments, retail, commercial, and open space. BIM has been an integral part of JAMA and architect Altoon Porter’s design process, allowing the team to evaluate alternatives for the 1950’s-era buildings, their 1990’s structural upgrades, and new structures in real time.
