After years in the making, the Shade Redondo Beach is opening! Construction hit a snag in March when a water pipe burst and flooded just-completed rooms on the lower floors, but the project will finally enjoy a soft opening in September and grand opening in October as the first luxury boutique hotel in RB. If you’re in the King Harbor area check it out; the eco-friendly hotel includes a rooftop pool, restaurant/bar and a separate event building with a lounge, ballroom and roof deck for 200. Principal Steven C. Ball attended the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) annual conference to accept an honor for the Bass Pro Shops at the Memphis Pyramid project. JAMA’s efforts to transform what was originally a sports and entertainment complex in the shape of a traditional Egyptian pyramid into a mixed-use in the retrofit/alteration category.
The LAPD Metropolitan Division Facility, a renovation of the Old Rampart Station in the Historic Filipinotown neighborhood of LA has received an Award of Merit in Southern California from Engineering News-Record (ENR) in the Government/Public Building category. JAMA is pleased to announce that Ryan Anderson, Kimberly Pacheco, and Lawrence “Larry” Pitkin have been promoted to Project Manager. The trio offers clients a combined 27 years of experience, and were elevated in order to recognize their leadership skills, technical expertise, and ability to effectively manage projects from design, through production and construction.
Tenants of the Gateway Apartments, a 21-unit complex for formerly chronically and disabled homeless individuals with severe health issues have been settling in over the summer. The project, which opened in May in Marina del Rey, is a LEED Platinum facility designed by Brooks + Scarpa Architects. It was a joint venture between Venice Community Housing and the Hollywood Community Housing Corporation.
Emerson College Los Angeles has been selected as a recipient of a 2016 Excellence in Structural Engineering Awards given by the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA). The award was conferred during an awards presentation ceremony on Friday, September 16, at the NCSEA Structural Engineering Summit in Orlando, Florida.
Jaime Garza, S.E. has joined JAMA as a Senior Project Manager. With over thirteen years of professional experience, Jaime brings a wealth of knowledge in specialty structures and performance-based design to the firm. His experience ranges from hospitality to mixed-use campuses to public art projects for both public and private sector clients. Specific projects include efforts for the University of California, LAUSD, LAX, LAPD, and most recently the Waldorf Astoria Hotel and Beverly Hilton Garden in Beverly Hills.
JAMA’s Larry Pitkin, S.E. will be travelling to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia to compete in the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship on Sept 4th. Athletes from over 70 countries will be competing in the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1 mile run. Live coverage of the race will be available on www.Ironman.com. More than 3,000 athletes from around the world who qualified at another IRONMAN 70.3 events will compete at this prestigious race. More than 130,000 athletes participate in a season of qualifying races for the championship, a series which consists of over 85 events in locations such as Australia, Germany, South Africa and Switzerland.
