JAMA has finalized design development-level drawings for a new 2,500-bed hospital in Changsha, China. The Fifth XiangYa Hospital, designed by Payette in Boston, MA, will provide a new, world class model for the delivery of healthcare in an integrated and efficient environment. The campus consists of a series of interconnected structures organized in two main groups — the General Hospital and the VIP Hospital — that surround a central Healing Garden. The 5.6 million square foot facility will be constructed primarily with a flat-slab concrete system and is expected to be complete in 2020. It will include both the general and VIP hospitals, ambulatory care facility, teaching, research and administration centers and a conference center.
