Steel Detailer

The role of a Steel Detailer at JAMA is to produce drawings and/or models in Tekla used for the fabrication and installation of structural steel for variety of construction project types. The Detailer will work closely with shop and field teams to produce detail drawings and field trade coordination issues. They will also review new design bulletins, addenda, RFI’s and trade coordination drawings to review and revise drawings based on engineering calculations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed an AA degree or a technical trade school in Computer Aided Drafting.
  • 5 plus years of experience using Tekla Structures detailing miscellaneous metal & structural steel.
  • Knowledge of AISC Steel Construction Manual, AWS Structural Welding Codes, and AISC detailing standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Bluebeam.
  • Experience in Autodesk Revit, BIM coordination, and Navisworks is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SDS/2, AutoCAD, and/or Advance Steel is a plus.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and requires minimal supervision.
  • Capable of balancing and prioritizing multiple internal projects.
  • Good communication skills.
  • The ability to generate RFIs.
  • The ability to read Architectural and Structural Drawings.
  • The ability to work in-person in either our Los Angeles or Oakland Office.

Structural Designer

Minimum requirements:

  • BS in Civil or Architectural/Structural Engineering; MS and EIT a plus. Transcripts and references will be requested.
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn, good communicator, and resourceful.
  • Able to work independently or in a group setting. Willingness to be mentored by others.
  • Proven excellence in University coursework related to structural analysis and behavior of building structures; Building code application and performance based design a plus.
  • Proven excellence in University coursework related to concrete and steel design; PT concrete, wood and masonry a plus.
  • Either prior experience with or ability to learn analysis and design software and apply to project specific needs under guidance of senior engineer(s).
  • General programing or knowledge in Grasshopper/Rhino is a plus.
  • Special consideration to those who have interned in a Structural Engineering office and have experience with analysis and design of buildings using the California Building Code and ASCE 7.
