The Northridge Earthquake of 1/17/94, Part I (Image 19 of 20)

A second view of the parking structure on the campus of California State University. The bowed columns are of reinforced concrete. The structure has precast, moment-resisting concrete frames on the exterior and a precast concrete interior designed for vertical loads. The interior failed, and the outside collapsed toward the inside. The reinforced concrete columns were extremely bent. Photo Credit: M. Celebi, U.S. Geological Survey.
