Shaquille O’Neal Statue Unveiled at Staples Center

Los Angeles Laker Shaquille O’Neal was honored with a 1,200-pound bronze statue outside the Staples Center last Friday. JAMA staff members Matthew Timmers and James Lee provided structural engineering for the 9’ tall structure suspended 10’ above the ground, engineering the backboard that supports Shaq as well as the anchorage into the existing Staples Center structure which was reviewed for additional loads.
